Epidermis

As I begin to get older, the thought of my genetic skin disease never going away is more and more at the forefront of my mind. I am learning that it is not longer something that I need to be covering up and hiding from the world about. My current inner relationship with my skin disease is one full of complications. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, my skin disease if inherently the largest physical quality of my body.

Epidermis is based on the textural quality of my skin disease and the relation of it to textures within the natural world. With skin being the largest organ, it is also the outermost layer of the human body. As I begin to become more secure and work to heal the relationship I have with my own disability, I begin to think about skin in the sense of the space it encompasses of the body.

Through the use of self portraiture and textural imagery, I engage with the different physical qualities of both my skin and the world I inhabit; reflecting on the different factors and importance of the organ itself.
